Session Title: Eating Disorders 101: When to Support and When to Refer
Session description: Eating disorders are not as scary as you may think they are. As a mental health professional, you have a significant amount of knowledge and expertise that is extremely supportive for clients who may be struggling with eating disorders or disordered eating. However, both often go undetected and untreated until significant symptoms are apparent. Clients typically do not show up in eating disorder specialists’ offices first. Clients are sitting on your couch and you play such a vital role in early detection, compassionate support, and proper referral. This webinar will help clinicians differentiate between eating disorders and disordered eating. Content will provide participants with practical and compassionate strategies to support clients with the skills you already have. Attendees will learn how to recognize when a higher level of care is needed and how to guide clients toward specialized treatment with warmth, clarity, and ethical consideration. Designed for mental health professionals who may not specialize in eating disorders, this session will offer valuable insights to help you feel more confident in supporting clients struggling with these challenges. You'll leave with practical tools, a deeper understanding of your role in the process, and the knowledge to make a real difference in your clients' healing journeys.
