The purpose of this proposal is to provide a better understanding of the relationship between PTSD and whether exposure to traumatic events increases the likelihood of substance use. The finding in the studies indicated that those diagnosed with PTSD were more likely to be dependent on prescribed opioids. This proposal will also discuss helpful information that will provide a clearer understanding of PTSD. This information is given to increase recognition of the illness, and increase the methods in treating PTSD. The participants used in this proposal are veterans from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam wars.
